ABSTRACT

A field study was carried out to determine the influence of foliage applied plant growth promoter and retardant in improving soil applied sulphur fertilizer use efficiency in cotton during two consecutive summers 2014 and 2015. Experimental trial comprised of three different sources of sulphur (ammonium sulphate, potassium sulphate and elemental sulphur) and foliar spray of plant growth promoter and growth retardant including tap water was taken as control. Among treatments soil applied ammonium sulphate with foliage applied amino acid produced maximum plant height, sympodial branches, pods per plant, seed cotton yield, fiber yield, biological yield, protein contents, oil contents and leaf nitrogen uptake as compared to the other treatments. Whereas, soil applied potassium sulphate with foliar spray of mepiquat chloride on cotton significantly improved the boll weight and leaf potassium uptake. We conclude that soil applied ammonium sulphate and foliage spray of amino acid was more effective in improving the productivity and quality attributes of cotton.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the removal effect of Moringa seedprotein on turbidity water. Methods The protein of Moringaoleifera seed was extracted by salting out and salting out methodand the protein concentration of Moringa oleifera seed wasdetermined by Coomassie blue staining; The removal effect of Moringa seed protein on turbidity water was determined by coagulation test. The contents of COD, ammonia nitrogen and nitrate nitrogen in the water were determined to determine the effect of Moringa seed protein on water quality. Results The experimental results showed that Moringa oleifera seed protein has good removal effect on high and medium turbidity water, and its removal effect is in a dose - dependent manner. The removal rate of 7 mg/L of Moringa seed protein to high and medium turbidity water reached 92.25 % and 64.71 % respectively. But the removal efficiency of low turbidity water was less than 7 mg/L, the removal rate of low turbidity water was only 31.91%.The results of determination of COD, ammonia nitrogen and nitrate nitrogen showed that the Moringa seed protein did not increase the content of organic matter in the water while removing turbidity effectively. Conclusion Moringa oleifera seed protein has a certain removal effect on turbidity water, among which the removal effect of high and medium turbidity water is strong, and the removal effect of low turbidity water is poor.Moringa oleifera seed protein had little effect on water quality.

ABSTRACT

This study was aimed to investigate the seed protein of different forms ofTrichosanthis fructus from Shandong province. UV analyzer was used to analyze the seed protein content. PAGE fingerprint was drawn by Biosens Gel Imaging System software. The Jaccard coefficient was worked out by using NTSYS-pc software. A cluster dendrogram of different samples was established based on unweighted pair-group method with arithmetic means (UPGMA). The results showed that the content of different samples was obviously different. But there were many common bands in the fingerprints of PAGE. It was concluded that the content of seed protein cannot be used as the main index to evaluate the quality ofTrichosanthis fructus. The common bands in fingerprints of PAGE can be used to identifyTrichosanthis fructus.

ABSTRACT

A novel antifungal protein with a molecular mass around 50 kDa was purified from seeds of Sesbania virgata (Cav.) Pers. using ammonium sulfate fractionation followed by gel filtration on a Sephadex G-75 Superfine (Sigma) column and reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography on a C8 column. The protein, designated FP1-A, with a novel N-terminal sequence AMVHSPGG(S)FS(P), showed growth inhibitory activity of filamentous fungi Aspergillus niger, Cladosporium cladosporioides, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides and Fusarium solani.

ABSTRACT

Data on the physico-chemical properties of proteins from soybean, groundnut, sesame seed, sunflower seed, safflower seed, mustard seed, rapeseed and cotton seed are fairly extensive. An examination of the available data on high molecular weight proteins suggests that there are similarities in many of their properties. In this report the similarity in amino acid composition, size and shape, molecular weight, secondary structure, subunit composition, association-dissociation at high and low pH, stability towards denaturants, hydrolysis by enzymes and quaternary structure of the high molecular weight proteins is discussed. Based on these similarities a model has been proposed for the associationdissociation, denaturation and reassociation behaviour of the high molecular weight proteins of oilseeds.
